Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid is used in the treatment of respiratory tract infection. Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid is a combination of two medicines: Cefpodoxime Proxetil and Clavulanic Acid. Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefpodoxime Proxetil against bacteria.
Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid may cause Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD). Treatment with antibiotics alters the normal flora leading to overgrowth of Clostridium difficile; this causes diarrhea. Drink lots of fluids and eat food rich in fiber if you experience diarrhea. If you find blood in stools (tarry stools) or if you experience prolonged diarrhea with abdominal pain, stop taking Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid and consult your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.
Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid is a combination of two antibiotics, namely: Cefpodoxime (cephalosporin antibiotic) and Clavulanic acid (beta-lactamase inhibitor). Cefpodoxime works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell covering, which is necessary for their survival. Thereby, kills the bacteria. Clavulanic acid works by decreasing bacterial resistance and enhancing the activity of Cefpodoxime against the bacteria. Together, Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid helps to treat bacterial infections.
Do not stop taking Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid despite symptomatic relief. To treat your condition effectually continue taking Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid for as long as it has been prescribed for you.
Yes, Cefpodoxime Proxetil may cause constipation as a side effect. However, taking mild laxatives may provide relief if you feel constipated. Also, take a fiber-rich diet including fresh fruits, vegetables, whole wheat grains and avoid taking oily and spicy food as it will only worsen your condition. If your constipation gets worse, please consult your doctor.
Do not take Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid on your own as self-medication may lead to antibiotic-resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections.
Usually, Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid starts working soon after taking it. However, it may take some days to kill all the harmful bacteria and make you feel better.
Inform your doctor if you do not feel better even after finishing the full course of treatment. You must also inform your doctor if the symptoms get worse while using this medicine.
Yes, Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid can cause allergic reaction and is considered to be harmful for patients with known allergy to a group of antibiotics called Cephalosporins. Get emergency medical help if you notice any of the signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty in breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat.
The use of Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid is considered to be harmful for patients with known allergy to penicillins or any other excipients present in this medicine. This medicine should not be used in patients with previous history of liver damage associated with Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid.
No, Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Clavulanic Acid can make birth control pills less effective. So, ask your doctor about using a birth control method which does not affect your hormone levels (such as a condom, diaphragm and spermicide).
